The apparel industry in Jordan took form in earnest after the ratification of the Qualifying Industrial Zones (QIZ) agreement in 1997,itself an offshoot of the 1994 peace treaty with Israel, and later the Jordan- US Free Trade Agreement in 2001. In just seven years, from 1998 to 2005, Jordan’s exports swelled 80 times to a whopping $1.3 billion. Presently, apparel dominates Jordan’s exports to the US,accounting for over 80% of the total, at a value of around $1 billion.
